The soul of George Carlin, the master of observational humor, now resides in one of two places: Inside a garage in Buffalo, or on top of it.

I grew up watching and listening to him and in the summer of 2004 I finally had the opportunity to see George’s act, in person, while on vacation in Las Vegas. It would be nearly impossible for me to sit here and write something about him that hasn’t already been said.

Though, that will not stop me from trying:

While in high school, an assignment was given to my class to write an essay about the country and what we would do to fix things. I used this opportunity to borrow parts from his idea of ridding the country of the four worst kinds of people (As seen in George Carlin: Back in Town), by grouping them together in what (by todays standards) can only be chracterized as the most extreme of reality TV ideas. That being said, I got an average grade on the paper, mainly losing points for getting a bit loose with the language. Hopefully, George is sitting there at the garage in Buffalo, proud of the impact he’s had on the world at large.

RIP George, may your ashes reach the four corners of the world and all points inbetween.

Yesterday was Father’s Day and it was an especially hard day for my son, Josh. The passing of Faith Hope still fresh in everyones mind, Josh was unable to share his first Father’s Day with his little girl. Like the rest of us, he’s had his good days and his bad days. But, hopefully, each day gets a bit easier. Not by much, but little by little.

Faith Hope’s website is coming along well. The photo gallery is up and running, with just a few more pages left to work on. Finding time between sleep and work has been difficult over the last couple of weeks, but I’m determined to get the site finished soon. Please be sure to visit the site and let us know what you think. A contact page is one of the final priorities and with luck, will be up by the end of the week.

The big bully on the block doesn’t want your lunch money anymore. He’s branching out, now he wants little Johnny to fork over a licensing fee for the honor and privilege of wearing a Cubs Jersey!

Major League Baseball is throwing its weight around, having sent letters to suppliers of little league baseball organizations stating that without the organization or the supplier paying a licensing fee to MLB, they could no longer sell and wear uniforms emblazoned with the official team names, logos, etc. Last I checked, little league baseball was about the kids, save for the groups of unruly parents who think they’re kids are the next Alex Rodriguez. With that being said, Little League Baseball is non-profit. I can remember playing little league baseball and having to sell fund raising candy just so the league could afford to purchase the uniforms. Who knows how much the licensing fee costs, it’s really besides the point. Tens of thousands of kids play little league baseball, most with the dream of someday making it to the big leagues, and also for most, the dream never comes true. For those few years in our innocent youths, little Johnny could say he once wore the same uniform the big guys wear. That moment in the sun won’t come for little Johnny anymore, unless we dish out gobs of money to the MLB machine that can’t even decide if we need instant replay to help umpires or if we just need to make sure they aren’t blind as a bat.

I will always love the game of baseball and I will always be the biggest of Cubs fans, but its stupidity like this that makes me sad for what MLB has become. Now, I’m not so narrow minded as to not realize that like anything else, baseball is a business, but is letting little Johnny run the bases, stand in centerfield or sit on the bench wearing Cubbie Blue and a big read ‘C’ on his jersey and cap really going to destroy Bud Selig’s bottom line?

God looked around His garden
And He found an empty place.
He then looked down upon this earth
     And saw your tired face.
He put His arms around you
     And lifted you to rest.
God’s garden must be beautiful;
     He always takes the best.
He knew that you were suffering.
He knew you were in pain.
He knew that you would never
     Get well on earth again.
He saw the road was getting rought,
And the hills were hard to climb.
So He closed your weary eyelids,
     And whispered “Peace be thine”.
It broke our heard to lose you,
But you did not go alone.
For part of us went with you
The day God called you home.

Its about 2:30am on Saturday morning, quite a few hours removed from the time the phone call came in with the news we never wanted to hear. Faith Hope passed away late on Friday afternoon. Whether inevitable or not, we dared to dream this day would never come. 7 weeks after coming into our lives, I saw my son holding Faith in his arms, looking the same as she did the last time we saw her. Her eyes wide open as if still taking in her surroundings, it’s difficult to grasp that our little miracle had already moved beyond our world.

I just want to thank all that may have run across my blog over the last couple of months for all of their thoughts and prayers.

Maybe I’ll think of more to write about Faith, sometime after the tears have dried up …

Now, the bad news:

The doctors tune has changed from visit to visit, but it seems its all just different notes of the same horrible song.

When the plates in little Faiths skull fuse, they say it will put pressure on the excess fluid in her brain that pressure will in turn push down on the brain stem to the point that it basically becomes dislodged and at that point, little Faith will then have taken her last, little breath.

Besides the fact that I think all doctors are a bunch of quacks, I just want to get the same exact story, more than once. It seems every visit, the doctors change things just enough for us to think they are even crazier than we already did. So please keep praying for Faith. More information here, as it becomes available.
